Lilla Rogers GTS. . .

Hi everyone,
I signed up for Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search 2014. Lilla Rogers is an international illustration agent representing artists all over the world.  The real Mccoy.  I ummed and ahhed for days. Should I, shouldn't I? Who do I think I'm kidding,  I'm no where near good enough to compete at that level. I mean, I only got as far as A 'level art at school (I did get a B, just saying) before deciding that a career in art was totally out of my reach. I didn't go to art college, I don't have a degree...in anything.  I have, however, been teaching art to a whole school of 44 pupils for the last 5years.  Also a good number of you who read my blog and have supported me over the years have bought my artwork.  That has to count for something.

The bottom line is, I just love to draw and paint. A fish needs water, we need air and I need to paint, every day.  It is as simple as that.

So I gave myself a metaphorical slap and kick up the ol' jacksy.  What do I have to lose. Absolutely nothing. One of two things will happen.
1.  I don't go through to round two
     or
2.  I DO   :))))))

Now at least I'm in the running.  It feels a bit like buying a Lottery Ticket.  All that dreaming and hoping till the numbers get drawn.  My insecurities are sneering and jeering at me and my "bloody minded" self is gathering ammo.

Ammo, comes in the shape of my mood board above.  I've been playing with colours and sketching succulents and seed heads. The first assignment is due by the 18th August.  My butterflies are in full frenzied flight...

Will post my entry after the 18th.  Wish me luck!!!

And good luck to everyone that is taking part.  It's a fantastic opportunity...that's my wobbly Fun and Nonsense for today :) xx

I know many artists who are self taught, never been to an art lesson in their lives etc, so what?? I believe I can 'paint' / 'draw' , a lot of my friends/fellow bloggers/Facebookers say i'm good, but to someone else my work is probably a one out of ten and not worth a second look. Do I care? I used to, not any more. Art is such a personal thing, you love it (as I do) and that's the most important reason of all. I absolutely adore your work, it's a style I admire greatly and I wish you the best luck in the world - just do it :) xx

Thanks Rosa, your right. Normally I don't care. I love what I do. But, getting through to the next round and hopefully going to one after that would open some exciting doors and take me into a new direction. so fingers crossed :) xxx

Well I'll wish you loads of good luck … but I don't think you'll need it … you ARE the real McCoy.

I agree with Rosa..art is so personal and the ultimate point is we all love art and all the joy it gives us. Going to art school does not matter. And, Catherine, I have always been such a fan of your work and the beautiful seed-heads look like they are going to be another lovely treat!
Wishing you all the best!!

How funny...i was just looking through your illustrations and thinking to myself "please let me get that good at art...one day!". Then i read your comments on how you have some doubt about not being good enough....i gasped, literally!!
I'd give my right arm to have your skill ( but then i'd be even worse at art seeing as i'm right handed lol).
So from one Londoner to another i wish you all the best!! You're amazingly talented and my heart smiles at the beautiful world you create.

Hi Anonymous, thank you so much. Even if I don't get to where I want to be, just knowing that people like you enjoy my world makes me happy. Am off to London tomorrow and will be taking in all the galleries and seeing the grand masters. Can't wait :) xx
